Poetry and Grammar Galore

The week is FLYING by, which is a good thing because both the kids and I are ready for the week of vacation!  We are working on Thanksgiving things, poetry, and retelling with a BME.  I, on the other hand, am quickly working on getting things ready for when we come back.  (Why am I even thinking about that...seriously!?!)

Our poetry writing has been quite interesting!  This year I went back to using the 'ole Song and Poem Book faithfully.  The poem or song that we use for shared reading every week goes in a folder that is labeled "Song and Poem Book".  I have always done this with my kinder kiddos, but this year I thought we could use it especially since I knew they would be expected to write their own poems.  It hasn't been as tough as I expected and I think it's because they have had more exposure to poetry consistently.  We have been working on it for 11 weeks before they have even been expected to write it.

We are using pieces from my new poetry mini-unit!  It's nothing big, but it's a GREAT start!  As I was planning for it last week, I realized that there were many things that we needed to touch on.  It's not finished yet, but it will be next week!  I want to have it up incase you want to do some "holiday shopping" for your classroom! :)
Here is a peak! :)

I just finished and posted our Grammar Warm-Ups for the next 6 weeks.  Let me just confess....without this, I don't teach grammar unless it comes up in their writing.  **GASP!**  I know, it's horrible! But when do I have time?!  SERIOUSLY?!  Doing these quickly 10 minute grammar warm-ups help me make sure that I'm teaching all of the TEKS and it really does help the kids with their writing.  The 3rd set is now posted if you want to grab it!
